FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Conchords
Chorale Presents "Let's Go to the Movies II: The Memory Lane Awards"
at Woodburn United Methodist Church
Tualatin, Oregon…Official Rose Festival choir The Conchords Chorale wants to take music lovers to the movies on Sunday, May 15, 3 PM, at the Woodburn United Methodist Church. This performance is one of the church’s Community Service Concerts, which it presents on the 3rd Sunday of every month from September through May.
Director Don Anderson and the group will bestow their own “Memory Lane Awards” upon well-loved movie songs in the categories of romance, humor, dance, showstoppers and drama. Naturally, the choristers will sing the winning tunes — old favorites such as “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” “Call Me Irresponsible” and “Swinging on a Star” — along with selections from “West Side Story” and “The Sound of Music.”
Because an awards ceremony would be nothing without celebrities, a passel of “stars” will summon all the glamour and glitz a community choir can muster to introduce the winning numbers.
For 29 years, The Conchords Chorale has delighted the Portland-area senior community with performances at local independent and assisted-living centers. Now, the choir is bringing its scripted shows and rich harmonies to the public in several ticketed performances, including this free show at Woodburn United Methodist (a free will offering is encouraged). The group will also perform at the Waterfront Park on Memorial Day, the Smith Memorial Presbyterian Church in Fairfield on June 5 and will conclude its season with two performances at the Hollywood Theater on June 10 and 12.
The Woodburn United Methodist Church is located at 700 North Cascade Drive in Woodburn. For information, call 503-982-2891.
